Triple Exposure is an international project that engages the children of the city of Nablus, in the northern West Bank, Palestine. Participating children live in the Balata, Askar, and el-Ein refugee camps, as well as in the Old City and Khallet al Amood, two other disadvantaged neighborhoods of Nablus.
Through promoting skills in photography techniques and mural art, the staff and volunteers of Triple Exposure enable these children to explore their identities as individuals and Nablus residents, and also to develop confidence in their own capacities as artists. As of fall 2011, we have worked with over 350 children ages 6 to 16 years old. The classes are taught by international and Palestinian teachers, maintaining an average student-teacher ratio of 4:1. We also involve international and local artists, photographers, and journalists as trainers and mentors for the children.
Through their work in class, Triple Exposure artists produce indoor and outdoor murals around Nablus, both to beautify the city and to involve the whole community in enjoying the fruits of their labors. Triple Exposure photographers will also present their work: local and international exhibitions of their photographs will highlight the unique visions and talents of these young teenagers.
Triple Exposure is an initiative of Tomorrow’s Youth Organization (TYO). Founded in 2007, TYO is a non-governmental, non-profit American organization that opened its first community center in Nablus in March 2008. TYO works to enable children, youth, and parents to realize their potential as healthy, active, and responsible family and community members. We pursue this goal through community-based non-formal education programs for young children, adolescents, and their families.
